SIAM

After having lived in the North of France between Boulogne sur mer and Roubaix, Siam settled in Paris where he currently lives and works. His visual work is based on his strolls through the landscapes of Northern France. For instance, the long stretches of deserted beaches of Boulogne sur Mer and the chaotic landscapes of the industrial era are part of the scenarios of his work.

This sensitive and brutal relationship with the landscape allows him to develop a work and an exploration of space that unfolds in different mediums: decor painting (notably for the Hermès shop windows), artistic direction and the production of music videos. In his work, architectural, mineral and vegetal elements, marked by the human trace, stand out from the desert and misty horizons, saturated in colours. Inspired by the atmosphere of Barjavel's and Ballard's fictions, it is also through literature that Siam nourishes his creations.

"My great-grandfather was a navigator-dogsitter on the boat 'France'. He is my grandmother's father, I never knew him. It is through stories, anecdotes and my grandmother's archives that I have learnt about his history. A few documents: an image of him on the deck, accompanied by his faithful companions, and images of the famous dog show give me a glimpse of the atmosphere on board.

A time when the France was still sailing on the Atlantic Ocean. This fiction/series of paintings is a tribute I pay to the story of my great grandfather who spent his life on the seas and oceans in the gentle company of dogs. "
